Ye gods, how much I am appreciated. I was shown, and it's such a nice day. Clouds, a little rain, perfect temperature. I actually don't even mind bein' here instead of there right now, if you know what I mean. My mentor and the mullethead even ganged up and cooked me up one of my favourite dishes when I went for a long, solitary run. I should have known somethin' was up when the mullethead turned down my invite. We'd run on Tuesday. I pushed myself too hard today to go for anythin' worth anythin' of a run tomorrow. I'd be eatin' the mullethead's dust if I tried.
We had plans, anyway. We'd invited our next door neighbours and our three closest neighbours across the street from us to harvest the no longer commercial fruit trees on our rented property. There was a lot, and it would go to waste if we hadn't done the invite. We could only eat so much, and we had a Hell of a lot of trees. Apple, pear, peach, apricot, cherry, a cold weather lemon, and a grove of fig trees that had to be wrapped up every winter. Not everything was in harvest yet, but we had enough almost at peak so the families could stock up to eat fresh, can, or sell. We didn't mind. They were invited to help themselves until the season for everything was over, and we were guaranteed free dairy, eggs, and what vegetables they grew to both sides of us for the remainder of our stay here, for it. It was a nice trade. They'd technically come out ahead, but it didn't matter. Of course we also had bramble berries that were just there. They'd be ready in a couple of weeks, and I couldn't wait. I was a raspberry fiend. Loved 'em with cream, or farina.
We were due to get ten cords of firewood delivered tomorrow. Why so much, I had no idea. My mentor refused to tell me. We didn't even burn wood half the time on our gas fireplace. It was a lot, and it would be stored in the now unused stables. Damn, how I missed 'my' pony. Not that I considered that I owned him. He owned me, was more like it.
Now, the mullethead just walked in. I was made an offer I'd be a fool to refuse.
Late.
